Allergy Information Resource Website for Parents to Check Concerning Childhood Food Allergies

AllAboutFoods.org is a user-friendly website that provides easy to understand allergen information and is available to the general public. It lists basic food items and lets visitors know if they contain the eight main food allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy and wheat. The primary focus is on fast food restaurants, family restaurants and everyday food items sold in the grocery store.

Parents can go to this site and check fast food restaurants such as Burger King, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Boston Market, to find out if items on their menu contain any wheat, soy, dairy, fish, tree nuts, shellfish, peanuts, eggs, MSG and more. This is an invaluable resource for parents to be able to check this out before going to a restaurant. All About Foods is adding new information on a daily basis. Be sure to check it out before taking your kids out to eat if they have any kind of food allergy. http://www.AllAboutFoods.org

Recognize the Symptoms of Food Allergies in Children

Food allergy symptoms vary. One child may have very mild symptoms, while another child may exhibit life-threatening symptoms. We should all be aware, and recognize, the symptoms that can present themselves. Reactions can occur within a few minutes or not show up for a few hours until after having contact with the offending food.

Food Allergy Symptoms can affect these four areas of the body:

* Skin - shows up as Hives, itchy red bumps; Eczema, redness and swelling of face or extremeties; Itching & Swelling, lips, tongue or mouth area
* Respiratory - shows up as Runny or Stuffy nose, Wheezing, Sneezing, Coughing or Shortness of Breath
* Gastrointestional - shows up as Diarrhea, Abdominal pain, Nausea or Vomiting
* Cardiovascular - shows up as Lightheadedness or Fainting

False Labels on Foods A Danger to Allergic Children

It is estimated that more than 30,000 Americans, many of them children, require emergency room treatment each year. Of those, approximately 150 die each year.

This is a very serious matter, not to be taken lightly, however, it is becoming more evident that some companies are taking this a little too lightly. An investigation by the Chicago Tribune has revealed that many products have harmful amounts of hidden allergens despite the claims they make on their packaging. Parents have been relying on these labels and now we find out that they cannot all be trusted.

Apparently, many of the problem foods are those marketed to children, such as candy, cookies, cakes and ice cream.
