Chocolate Banana Pops for a Fast & Healthy Summer Ice Cream Treat
The days are getting hot. It’s only May, and in Virginia we are already reaching temperatures in the 80’s and 90’s – yikes! In an effort to cool off, my kids have started requesting ice cream and Popsicles.
I don’t always have ice cream or Popsicles on hand, and even if I did, often the ice cream, and many of the frozen treats available, are full on food coloring, artificial sweeteners, and flavorings. What is a parent to do?
Well, if I can make a quick frozen treat that they enjoy and get them to eat involving something more nutritious that it even better.
So how about Chocolate Banana Pops? Now, don’t let your kids convince you to buy the Chocolate Banana Pop coating in the produce section, as it is chalk full of fat and made of oil and cocoa powder. I actually opened a packet of the stuff and it was so oily I could barely wipe it off my fingers.
It is easy and only takes minutes to make a healthy Chocolate Banana Pop for your kids.
Here are the steps.
1. Peel and cut 4 bananas (cut in half – to make a top and bottom)
2.. Use Popsicle Sticks (or straws) to push half way into the Banana.
3. Put the bananas in the freezer for about an hour. Once the Bananas are frozen, remove from freezer.
4. Pour dark chocolate chips (or chocolate bar- use 60% dark or higher) into a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave on Melt Chocolate setting until the chocolate begins to melt. Stir chocolate until smooth.
5. Spread chocolate onto banana. The chocolate will harden on the banana in a matter of seconds because the banana is frozen.
Serve and Enjoy!
These are also great treats for us, moms!
Besides frozen Chocolate Banana Pops- you can do frozen chocolate strawberries, or freeze grapes for a cold treat.
And it is just as easy to make frozen juice pops- I will share a few recipes another day!
